A lot of hardcore by the late 80s had some formidable players. It wasn't unusual to see local bands with a Charvel or Jackson equipped guitarist shredding the absolute living hell out the fretboard for example. Crossover been going on for a few years and some of the more adventurous Metal kids went Punk and open minded Punks got into Metal.
